Wenche Jy
Wenche Jy, PhD in Pharmacology, is a founding member and the Chief Scientific Officer of RxMP Therapeutics, Inc. He is an expert in the field of blood coagulation and bleeding disorders. He has studied the role of cell-derived microparticles in hemostasis, thrombosis, and inflammation over the past 30 years. His work has resulted in many peer-reviewed papers, reviews, and book chapters. He and his colleagues have discovered that cell-derived microparticles are not only important for blood coagulation and hemostasis, but also are novel messengers for interaction among different types of cells. His studies on thrombocytopenic (low platelet counts) patients showed that the bleeding symptoms are inversely correlated with levels of circulating microparticles, indicating circulating microparticles play a role in the protection of bleeding in vivo. He and his colleagues further demonstrated the effectiveness of red cell microparticles on reducing bleeding in several animal models including tail bleeding and intracerebral hemorrhage in rats, and ear bleeding and liver laceration/bleeding in rabbits. Dr. Jy is also an expert on large scale production of red cell microparticles as well as the techniques for microparticle counting, size analysis, and assay of microparticle-mediated procoagulant activity.
